Olif is an international student from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He is a double major in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics. He completed his high school education in South Africa at the African Leadership Academy (ALA), an institution aimed at developing the next generation of African leaders. Passionate about transformational leadership and education, he hopes to contribute to the betterment of the world through scientific research.
At Tufts, Olif has been part of various academic and extracurricular groups. Olif is a member of Tau Beta Pi, The Engineering Honor Society. He has served on the boards of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Engineering Students Council (ESC), Math Society and the Eritrean Ethiopian Students Association (EESA). Olif has been an active voice in DEIJ related efforts on campus working closely with the administration of the Tufts School of Engineering and serving on the DEIJ board in the mathematics department.
Olif is a Learning Assistant in the Physics and Mechanical Engineering departments on top of having served as a Mathematics and Physics tutor with the Student Accessibility and Academic Resources Center (STAAR Center). He has also worked with the Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO) to help develop the curriculum and educational content for Statics (ME 20) and Dynamics (ME 21) courses in the Mechanical Engineering department.
Outside Tufts, he is actively engaged in youth empowerment projects across Africa. In his leisure time, he enjoys playing and watching soccer. Upon graduation, Olif will be joining Applied Materials as a Mechanical Engineer in their Gloucester, MA office.
