Hometown: East Longmeadow, Massachusetts

Major(s): Biology, Community Health, and International Relations

Dan is a senior from East Longmeadow, Massachusetts studying Biology, Community Health, and International Relations, interested in pursuing a career as an infectious disease physician and global health researcher and practitioner. His passions stem from his family background, being raised by two Vietnamese refugees who fled their motherland and witnessed how humanitarian crises can manifest into adverse health outcomes for people. His roots, coupled with his passions for civic engagement and community health, eventually led him to pursue his interdisciplinary field of interest.

At Tufts, Dan has found many avenues to pursue his passions. He has worked as a clinical quality and health systems strengthening intern at Partners In Health, interned at Thirst Project, and currently serves as a senior research fellow and youth board member for Move Up Global, a non-profit that supports health and education linkages in rural Rwanda, having gotten to work in Rwanda in the summer of his junior year. He has also traveled to Los Angeles to present his research with Move Up Global alongside colleagues at the Consortium of Universities for Global Health Conference, and Doha, Qatar to attend the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries.

On campus, he also wears multiple hats as a Laidlaw Scholar, an undergraduate research assistant with the Lantagne Group studying water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in emergencies, a FOCUS pre-orientation leader for Tisch College of Civic Life, a social media supervisor on the Tufts Dining Student Marketing Team, and a biology and chemistry lab teaching assistant. These days, you can find Dan busy collaborating with his team Isuku as a social impact finalist for the $100k New Ventures competition or working on research manuscripts for publication with Move Up Global.

Outside of the classroom, Dan is involved with Tufts for Health Equity as co-director of partnerships, Tufts Thirst Project as co-founder and senior advisor, Tufts Vietnamese Students Club, and the Asian American Center. In his free time, he enjoys dancing with his hip hop choreography team Spirit of the Creative, hiking, swimming, and exploring new restaurants. Having been admitted to the Early Assurance Program, Dan will begin his MD studies at Tufts University School of Medicine upon graduation and plans to pursue his MPH after medical school.
