Katie Shelburne is a senior majoring in Quantitative Economics and minoring in Urban Studies. Aside from her major and minor, Katie has enjoyed taking advantage of the broad variety of courses Tufts has to offer; she became a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Delta of Massachusetts in 2023. Katie is currently writing an Economics Senior Honors Thesis to study the impacts of urban freeway demolition projects on housing values.
Outside of the classroom, Katie is a senior captain of the Varsity Swimming and Diving Team, where she earned NESCAC honors as a distance freestyler and qualified for the NCAA national championships. She is also the former school record holder in the 1000 and 1650 yard freestyle. Additionally, Katie has served on the executive board of Tufts Green Dot since her freshman year and was a three-year FIT Pre-Orientation Peer Leader.
Katie found her career interest in finance after taking a finance course during her freshman year. She has served on the board of the Tufts Investment Banking Club for two years, helping over 40 sophomores procure junior year internships in the investment banking industry. Katie also co-founded the FitMoney Fellows program under the Tufts Investment Club to spread financial literacy knowledge to students at Medford, Somerville, Revere, and Newton North High Schools. She personally teaches weekly classes at Somerville High School, focusing on the basics of investing and budgeting.
This spring, Katie will receive the Frederick and Dorie Ellis Prize, which is awarded to students demonstrating athletic versatility, academic achievement, and the potential for future leadership of youth. Katie will return home to Houston after graduation to work as an Investment Banking Analyst at Goldman Sachs. She is incredibly grateful to everyone who supported her throughout her time at Tufts and looks forward to continuing all of the relationships she formed as a Jumbo.
