Dr. Abe Abdulwaheed is a founding member of Lux Dental Inc., which operates locations in Quincy, Cambridge, Saugus, Somerville, and Brockton, Massachusetts. He currently serves as the CEO and Chief of Oral Rehabilitation, leading a team of thirteen general dentists and multiple specialists. Lux Dental is recognized as one of the largest dental groups in Massachusetts that accepts Medicaid, providing care to thousands in the community.
Dr. Abdulwaheed is the 159th President of the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS). He also serves as the Vice Chair of the MDS Political Action Committee and People’s Committee. Previously, he was a member of the American Dental Association (ADA) Council on Government Affairs and currently chairs Governor Healey’s Special Council on Oral Health, specifically the Healthcare Workforce Subcommittee.
A dedicated advocate for dental policy reform, Dr. Abdulwaheed co-founded the successful Massachusetts Question 2: Medical Loss Ratios for Dental Insurance Plans Initiative. He is the author of Bill 300, which established a dental diversion program for dentists and hygienists facing mental health and addiction challenges in Massachusetts. He also authored H.4842, "An Act Relative to Dental Hygienist Reciprocal Licensure,", now law, which created a pathway for foreign-trained dentists to obtain a Massachusetts dental hygiene license.
Dr. Abdulwaheed has held academic positions as a clinical instructor at both Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. Additionally, he was appointed as an Associate Surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital – Brookside Community Center in Boston.

Beyond clinical practice and advocacy, Dr. Abdulwaheed holds several national and international patents in the field of optics and its applications in dental medicine. He has a strong passion for the intersection of mathematics, physics, and oral medicine.
Dr. Abdulwaheed is most proud of his recent work in developing a grant through the MDS to establish and support food pantries in all three Boston dental schools, addressing food insecurity among students. This initiative aims to ensure that future dental professionals have the nourishment they need to succeed in their education and careers.
Originally from Hong Kong, Dr. Abdulwaheed is a graduate of South Island School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and Biology, fulfilling the requirements for a Biomedical Engineering minor at Tufts University. He later received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine from Tufts University. His postdoctoral training includes a residency in dentistry at Harvard Medical School in association with Brigham and Women’s Hospital, along with a clinical fellowship in general dentistry at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Furthering his expertise in healthcare management and finance, Dr. Abdulwaheed earned his MBA from the University of Massachusetts Boston.
