Cathy is a senior born and raised in Jiangsu, China, double majoring in Mathematics and International Relations with a minor in Political Science. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Sigma Alpha, and received the Class of 1898 Prize for the breadth of her intellectual interests.
Recognizing the growth of undergraduate law journals at peer institutions and the absence of such a platform at Tufts, she co-founded the Tufts Undergraduate Law Review, and now serves as its Co-Editor-In-Chief. The organization was awarded the Tisch Fund and is recognized by the Tufts Community Union. To strengthen community connections and engagement, she joined the Pre-Law Society Executive Board as the Liaison to the Law Review. Beyond her work within the Pre-Law community, she has also contributed to the Leonard Carmichael Society and Girls Inc., where she mentored and planned a field trip for girls from 3rd to 5th grade.
One of Cathy’s most transformative experiences has been her involvement with the Tufts University Prison Initiative of the Tisch College of Civic Life (TUPIT) and the Petey Greene Program, where she served as a Teaching Assistant in correctional facilities. From there, she developed a strong interest in criminal law, with a particular focus on gender-based violence. She volunteers with several women’s rights organizations, including the Cambridge Women’s Center and the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, where she works as a medical advocate. Currently, she is channeling these experiences into her senior thesis, which critically examines rape and sexual assault laws in the U.S.
In her free time, Cathy enjoys getting lost in a great book, whipping up anything edible in the kitchen, and yapping with whoever she runs into on campus. She’s incredibly thankful for the wonderful people she’s met at Tufts and feels so lucky to have been surrounded by such supportive faculty and friends throughout her journey.
