Major: Computer Science
Minor: Engineering Management
Charles is a senior majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Engineering Management. He is from Chicago and is of African-American descent. Charles’ first experience at Tufts was in October of his senior year of high school when he attended the Voices diversity fly-in program. Although the program was held virtually that year, Charles saw how much community Tufts cultivated among its people, even in an online space. That made the choice clear for him.
During his time at Tufts, Charles has demonstrated exceptional leadership. He has held three major leadership positions on campus, including serving two terms as Chair of the Tufts Community Union Election Commission. Currently, Charles is also working as a Project Manager for JumboCode, where he leads a team of 10 developers, alongside a Technical Lead and Designer, to create a web scheduling application for LGBTQ Senior Housing, a nonprofit in Boston that provides safe and affordable housing for low-income LGBTQ seniors. He has also served as the Public Relations Chair, Treasurer, Vice President, and Co-President of the Tufts Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). Charles’ passion for creating safe spaces and uplifting Black engineering students has driven his commitment to growing and improving the Tufts NSBE chapter. During his term as Co-President, he led initiatives to establish sponsorships with companies such as DraftKings, Bloomberg, and Yahoo, creating direct pipelines into the industry for NSBE members.
Outside of Tufts, Charles is involved in organizations such as ColorStack, Management Leadership for Tomorrow, and CodePath, where he continues to develop his technical, professional, and networking skills. Beyond academics and leadership, Charles enjoys cooking for others, running, traveling, spending time with friends, and fashion. If you need to find him, you can usually find Charles in the Campus Center drinking his usual Sink order: Iced Blossom with oat milk, but substitute the rose syrup for lavender syrup.
