Joel Omolade, A25

Hometown: Bronx, New York

Major(s): Political Science and Community Health

Joel Omolade is a graduating senior at Tufts University, majoring in Political Science and Community Health. As a Bronx native, he came to Tufts with a passion to uplift and empower marginalized communities through advocacy, communication, and action. In his four years, he has used his passion through tangible change, leading with purpose and authenticity.

On campus, Joel serves as President of the Tufts Community Union Senate and is the
founding President of the RA Union, which played a central role in securing free room and board for all Resident Assistants. Formally, he has fought for basic student needs, building systems to represent student voices better, and has worked tirelessly to make Tufts a more inclusive, responsive and equitable place. Joel has also held leadership positions as the captain of the Tufts Mock Trial team, Director of Diversity for the Tufts Pre-Law Society, is a Tisch Scholar, and a proud member of the Children of the Cultures of Africa (COCOA) dance team.

Joel's leadership extends beyond student government but into local and federal
government as well. Joel has served as a marketing intern for Massachusetts State
Representative Christine Barber and Marjorie Decker and has worked alongside
Congressman Jamaal Bowman as a legislative intern. Currently, Joel is an intern at
Senator Ed Markey's office, where his role is focused on public affairs and constituent services. As someone who believes in the power of narrative to move policy, Joel hopes to join a career at the intersection of marketing, advocacy and politics, hoping to one day run for public office and represent his home city of New York.
