Hometown: Fresno, California

Major: Community Health

Alexander Vang is a graduating senior from Fresno, California, located in the center of the state. He is a Community Health major, set on entering the field of student affairs and higher education. As a first-generation college student, his work is grounded in a deep commitment to expanding access, community building, and improving the institutional experiences of historically underserved students.

On campus, Alexander serves as Vice President of the Tufts Community Union Senate, where he helps coordinate initiatives that enhance the overall student experience. Prior to this role he served as the FIRST Community Senator, advocating specifically for first-generation college students, low-income students, and students from diverse residency backgrounds. Beyond student government, his work in student life and inclusion spans multiple areas of campus.

He has also served as President of the QuestBridge Scholars Network, and as a Peer Leader at the FIRST Resource Center and Asian American Center, mentoring first-year students through their transition to college. As an intern at the Asian American Center and current Pan Asian Council Chair, he has led efforts to strengthen cross-community collaboration and create culturally affirming spaces for students. His professional experience includes serving as a Program Coordinator at Harvard Summer School, where he supported large-scale student engagement efforts for thousands of students (ages 16 to 65+), and working with the Office of Institutional Inclusive Excellence to plan campus-wide programming.

Alexander’s leadership and impact extend nationally through his involvement with NASPA and the Asian Pacific Islander Knowledge Community (APIKC). This is in addition to his presentations at conferences like NCORE, where he has highlighted the experiences of the Hmong community and first-generation college students in higher education. His work has been recognized through honors such as the NASPA Massachusetts and Region I Rising Star Award and the APIKC Mamta Accapadi Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award.

Whether Alexander pursues further education or steps fully into the student affairs profession, he remains committed to supporting students and ensuring that institutions are spaces where all students feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive
