Why did Russia invade Ukraine on February 24, 2022? The answer to the question is complex and multidimensional. The military campaign in Ukraine, which has gone badly for Russia, cannot be explained merely by the miscalculations of Russian President Vladimir Putin. It is essential to explore the historical, geopolitical, as well as Russian and Ukrainian domestic political trends that led up to the war. The lecture will assess the fraught history of Russia-Ukraine relations, the security dilemma between Russia and NATO, the pro-Western drift of Ukraine, the rise of a personalistic autocracy in Russia, and the failure of diplomacy between Russia and the West.

On Sunday, June 26, the Cape Cod Tufts Club invites alumni, parents, current students and friends of Tufts to the first in-person event in more than two years! Please join us for a at their Annual June Meeting at the Doubletree Hilton in Hyannis. We look forward to welcoming one of our most revered professors as the event’s featured speaker, Arik Burakovsky, Assistant Director of the Fletcher Russia and Eurasia Program at Tufts University.

The cost is $30 per person and $15 for current Tufts students and includes a delicious brunch with selections like farm fresh eggs, muffins and assorted pastries, roast pork with caramelized onions and spiced apples and seasonal vegetables. The Hilton is committed to providing a safe environment for their guests and will follow COVID state guidelines. Additionally, the event room is very spacious and can fit 250 people. Tables, which normally fit 8 people, will have only 4 or 6 per table. The Club will require those registering for the event be fully vaccinated and proof of vaccination will be checked at the door. Masks will be required except when eating or drinking. The room will be fully sanitized before the program begins.
