The Cape Cod Tufts Club invites you to their Annual Spring Luncheon, “Diving into the Deep with Alvin” on Saturday, April 15 at the Flying Bridge Restaurant featuring Lane Abrams, Lead Electrical Engineer of the Alvin Program and Senior Engineer at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
Human Occupied Vehicle (HOV), Alvin, is the only deep submergence vessel in the U.S. that can carry humans into extreme ocean depths of up to 21,300 feet and conduct complex scientific study of the deep ocean and seafloor. With seven reversible thrusters, it can hover in the water, maneuver over rugged topography, or rest on the sea floor and withstand dives lasting up to 10 hours. This incredible HOV has given researchers in-person access to 99% of the ocean floor and is transforming the way we study and understand extreme environments and the vast diversity of life in the deep sea.
Lane’s presentation will discuss not only the science that Alvin performs, but the equipment and engineering of the vehicle itself. Your $35 ticket includes a delicious lunch and dessert. You will be able to select your lunch during the registration process. Strawberry shortcake will be served for dessert and all main courses will be served with the chef’s choice of rice or potato, vegetable, and rolls.
Registration will close Monday, April 10. Looking forward to seeing you there!
