Election Protection on November 3

Give back to the community and volunteer! Sponsored by Tufts Lawyers Association (TLA) New England

Date: November 3, 2020

Time: 12:00 am to 11:59 pm

Lawyers for Civil Rights Boston (LCR) is recruiting volunteers for the nonpartisan Massachusetts Election Protection program this November. Election Protection uses a wide range of tools and activities to protect, advance and defend the right to vote. Minorities, people with disabilities, and non-English speaking voters are most at risk for disenfranchisement on Election Day. Volunteers are needed to help ensure that all voters have an equal opportunity to cast a meaningful ballot.

LCR is currently seeking volunteers for three main roles on November 3rd:

o            Remote State-wide Hotline 1-866-OUR-VOTE (1-866-687-8683): Remotely answer calls from your own home or office to help voters and concerned community members address possible election law violations.

o            Mobile Field Program: Observe polling locations from outside for voting issues (e.g., long lines, voter intimidation, illegal signage, etc.) and safely engage voters as they exit to assess their experience for any voter disenfranchisement issues.

o            Social Media and News Monitoring: Monitor news and social media for complaints about difficulties at the polls and identify election law violations.

Volunteers will be assigned to a 3-hour shift on Election Day. 1-hour virtual trainings will begin in mid-October.

You do not need to be a lawyer to volunteer – be sure to note you heard about this opportunity from TLA when you sign up.
