Estate Planning Primer: Common Mistakes and Pitfalls

It’s like going to the doctor, no one likes to thinking about it or doing it but everyone needs it’s.  Basic estate planning is a necessity for everyone regardless of your wealth.  It brings certainty and comfort knowing exactly how your estate will be handled.  No more guessing at what the default law is in your state and just hoping it will all work out.

Tufts Alum Andrew S. Katzenberg (A04', Maryland Law JD 07' and NYU Law Tax LLM 09') through his experience as trusts & estates attorney will explain the many issues one's family will encounter without proper planning and guidance and how they can be avoided. The recent tax legislation will also be discussed.  Finally, alumni will be provided an opportunity to ask questions relevant to their actual situations from simple questions such as how to choose a guardian to more advance techniques such as how to avoid New York State and City real estate transfer taxes.    

You will learn about:

       1) the relevant documents that everyone should have and why,

       2) common mistakes and pitfalls, and 

       3) the effect of the recent tax legislation.
