The Tufts Career Center is partnering with the Institute for Storycraft & Information Gathering (ISIG) for the 2026 Power of Storycraft Forum: Career Skills for the Next Four Years, taking place on Friday, October 2, 2026, on the Medford/Somerville campus. The event brings together students and alumni to explore careers in journalism, communications, media, content creation, research, and nonfiction storytelling.
ISIG is a nonprofit organization founded by Tufts alumni that supports news literacy, information evaluation, and nonfiction storytelling. Through forums, mentoring opportunities, and educational programs, ISIG helps develop the next generation of journalists, communicators, researchers, and storytellers while fostering the skills needed to navigate today's complex information landscape.
We're looking for Tufts alumni to volunteer as mentors and networking participants during one of the most valuable parts of the day: our Speed Mentoring Hour and the Career Cafe.
Students consistently tell us that conversations with alumni are among the most meaningful experiences they have at career events. Whether you're a journalist, marketer, communications professional, consultant, researcher, entrepreneur, content creator, or storyteller of any kind, your career journey and advice can help students better understand their options, build confidence, and expand their networks.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Speed Mentoring Hour
This interactive networking session gives students the opportunity to connect directly with Tufts alumni and industry professionals in one-on-one and small-group conversations. Students receive guidance on networking and career conversations, then rotate among alumni mentors to ask questions, explore career paths, and build their professional networks. Whether you're early in your career or a seasoned professional, your insights can make a lasting impact.
Career Café
Throughout the forum, students can stop by the Career Café for individualized career advice. Volunteers help answer questions about resumes, cover letters, internships, job searches, interviewing, networking, LinkedIn, and navigating careers in media, communications, and related fields. Even a brief conversation can help a student gain confidence and clarity about their next steps.
You do not need to have a traditional media background to participate. Students are eager to learn from professionals working across industries who use storytelling, communication, relationship-building, and information-sharing in their work.
If you're interested in volunteering, we'd love to have you join us for the event. Your participation can make a lasting impact on a student's career exploration journey. Please reach out directly at nicole.anderson@tufts.edu.
If you're a young alum looking to learn and connect with alumni, you are invited to join us! Register on the Summit website.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to give back to the Tufts community and support the next generation of Jumbos.
