Please join Tufts Environmental Alumni for their annual fall hike on Saturday, October 13! Mass Audubon’s Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary in Topsfield is rich with both cultural and natural history. Join naturalist Scott Santino to discover ways in which plants and animals prepare for winter during the fall months. Scott is a teacher naturalist at Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary in Topsfield, where he has been leading nature education programs for Mass Audubon since 1999. He is Director of the Ipswich River Nature Day Camps and coordinates the sanctuary’s volunteer docent program, training adults in natural history interpretation.

While walking wetland boardwalks we’ll see migratory birds, turtles absorbing the sun’s warmth, and beaver evidence such as lodges and dams. Visit the Rockery and marvel at a beautiful boulder grotto that was built at the beginning of the twentieth century. Dress for the weather and bring binoculars if you have them.

Hike Information:
The length of the hike is approximately 1.5 miles and is not strenuous, however, there are some portions that require walking up hill. It will go from 10 AM - 12:00 PM and we'll enjoy lunch afterwards!
