The Tufts Lawyers Association (TLA) will host a virtual conversation with the Honorable Kenneth W. Salinger, A83, Associate Justice of the Massachusetts Superior Court.  TLA is honored to welcome Judge Salinger as its first featured guest as part what will be its ongoing Tufts Judicial Series – a series of programs highlighting distinguished TLA members who serve in our state and federal judiciaries.

Judge Salinger earned his bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from Tufts University in 1983, majoring in economics.  He earned his juris doctor, cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1990.  Prior to becoming a lawyer, Judge Salinger worked for eight years on fiscal policy and public finance as a staff member of the Massachusetts Senate Committee on Ways and Means.  After law school, he worked in private practice for 16 years at Palmer & Dodge in Boston, where he became the leader of the firm’s telecommunications practice and a member of the firm’s executive committee.  In 2006, he became an Assistant Attorney General and the Appeals Coordinator in the Government Bureau of the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office.

Judge Salinger was nominated to the Massachusetts Superior Court by former Governor Deval Patrick in 2012, and was confirmed by the Governor’s Council and seated as an Associate Justice later that year.

Judge Salinger is assigned (January – June) to the Business Litigation Session (BLS).  The BLS Justices hear commercial disputes and complex civil matters.  The BLS Judges are on the cutting-edge of developing and implementing practices that aid in the timely and efficient resolution of civil cases.  Judge Salinger is currently sitting in a criminal session of Middlesex Superior Court.  In addition, last spring, Judge Salinger was called upon to consider the legality of one of Governor Charlie Baker’s executive orders responding to the COVID-19 emergency.

The program will be moderated by Anne Stevenson, A07, and Chris Vaccaro, A81, and will start with a conversation with Judge Salinger about his path from Tufts to the bench, the present status of the courts, and feedback/advice to practitioners.  Attendees will be able to pose their own questions during the program.  Following the discussion with Judge Salinger, we will enter breakout rooms for some informal networking.

All alumni, students, parents and friends are welcome to attend.
