In 2016, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) formally joined Tufts University, expanding a partnership that began in 1945. This is an unprecedented alliance of a world-class museum, a top-ranked research university, and the oldest art school in the country.

Established in 1876, the SMFA has educated some of the world’s most influential artists and creative leaders. The new SMFA at Tufts enhances art education and creates new educational and research collaborations among students, faculty, and museum curators across disciplines.
