Leading interdisciplinary education and research to build sustainable environmental solutions

Discovering solutions for the complex environmental challenges our world is facing, such as climate change, waste and pollution, water scarcity, rapid urbanization, resource depletion, and reduction in biodiversity requires an innovative, multi-faceted approach. The Tufts Institute of the Environment (TIE) is a university-wide, interdisciplinary institute, leading environmental education, research, and outreach toward a sustainable future.

Through a wide variety of programs, TIE provides opportunities for students and faculty to discover, invent, and lead. Signature programs include the certificate program in Water Systems, Science, and Society; The Tufts Energy Conference; and TIE Research Fellowships, Internships, and grants for Faculty Ventures.

Additionally, TIE drives exciting collaborations with leading global organizations, Recently, TIE partnered with Greentown Labs, the largest clean-tech incubator in the US, to foster opportunities for students and faculty to innovate and engage with clean–tech start-ups and corporate sponsors. It also established a collaboration with one of the world’s most influential Environmental Policy Think Tanks, the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), which provides an opportunity for SEI scholars and Tufts students to work together towards solving pressing global environmental challenges.

Most recently, TIE launched a unique professional Master’s degree program in Sustainable Water Management (SWM). This program is designed to develop the water professionals of tomorrow -- leaders who will create and implement holistic solutions for water challenges internationally.

Your gift adds focus and energy to TIE’s work for a healthy future and builds a university-wide culture to value and champion environmental sustainability. Make a gift today.
