Join a stimulating adventure through five centuries of Mexican history, culture, and art on this unique program, "When Montezuma Met the World: Reframing Conquest". By tracing the footsteps of the historic global encounters from the shores of Veracruz to Mexico City, we will gain a deeper understanding of Mexico’s historical foundations and the ripple effects of pivotal moments of foreign intervention. Our custom eight-night odyssey begins in the state of Veracruz where Hernán Cortés’ ships first landed. We will analyze critical turning points of the Conquest at sites like Cempoala, a major Totonac city-state that aligned with Cortés against the Aztec Empire, and La Antigua, the first Spanish settlement. We next travel to Puebla to learn about colonial society during visits to the city’s many religious, educational, and residential architectural wonders, including the resplendent Palafoxiana library. Our program ends in Mexico City where we will see the awe-inspiring temples of Teotihuacán and mesmerizing murals by Mexico’s most famous artists. Throughout our journey savor superb cuisine including an unforgettable farewell dinner showcasing Mexico’s culinary prowess.
