Ghana: Exploring the History, Culture & Legacy of West Africa

April 10 to 18, 2026

Explore Ghana’s unique heritage, from its historical landmarks to its flourishing contemporary culture.  Formerly known as the Gold Coast, Ghana boasts a rich history of pan-Africanism, powerful kingdoms, and its pivotal role in the trans-Saharan trade route. As one of the first African nations to gain independence in 1957, it was a beacon for civil rights icons like W.E.B. Du Bois and Martin Luther King Jr. Today, Ghana’s political stability attracts Western investments and those eager to reconnect with their roots or immerse themselves in its vibrant art, fashion, and music scene. Your adventure begins in Accra, the vibrant capital city of five million people and the heartbeat of Ghana. Explore national monuments and bustling local markets, experiencing the daily rhythm of this dynamic African city. In Cape Coast, visit the infamous slave castles, where the Door of No Return serves as a poignant reminder of the horrors of human exploitation, forever altering the course of history.

Next, delve into the powerful legacy of the Ashanti Kingdom in Kumasi, uncovering the deep cultural influence that still resonates in modern-day Ghana. A brief stop in the Volta region offers a view of Lake Volta, Africa’s largest man-made lake, providing both water and electricity to much of the country.
