Tufts is committed to a bold plan for the future of athletics and recreation facilities. A variety of dramatic improvements will provide an immediate positive impact for our varsity athletics programs, club sports, intramurals, and the entire university community. Already, facility projects have realized major upgrades and improvements to Ellis Oval and Cousens Gym, and created the new Daniel Ounjian Field for Tufts Field Hockey, the Tufts Squash Center, the Golf Training Center, and Tufts Baseball’s Sol Gittleman Park. Find out more about current facilities projects, including a dedicated Aquatics Center and the Tufts Tennis Center, Phase II. Keep up with all the good news from Tufts Athletics in the Tufts Athletics Annual Report.
Aquatics Center
It’s time for a championship-level aquatics center to match our championship-level programs. A new facility will bring our Tufts swimming and diving family even closer together by strengthening the bonds between student-athletes, alumni, and coaches, and just as important, by providing a gathering and recreation space for all members of the Tufts community. Join the effort to create this brand-new facility.
In 2023, the university invested $4.1M to relocate the Vouté Tennis Courts from Professors Row to the heart of the Tufts Athletics Complex across from the Steve Tisch Sports and Fitness Center. The new Tufts Tennis Center, now nestled among our other athletics venues, is a state-of-the-art facility that includes eight post-tension concrete regulation courts, lights, a scoreboard, a PlaySight court video streaming system, and spectator seating.
We are actively fundraising for Phase II of the Tufts Tennis Center project: a dedicated varsity team room where our tennis Jumbos can hold team meetings, store gear and belongings during practice and matches, and get a reprieve from the unpredictable New England weather. The varsity team room will include an interior restroom for our teams, as well as eight exterior public restrooms to serve student-athletes and spectators from all of the venues across the Tufts Athletics Complex.
Future projects highlighted in the Athletics Facilities Master Plan include an ice hockey rink and an expansion of the Steve Tisch Sports and Fitness Center to include additional fitness areas and improvements to recreation gyms.
