The Tufts Lawyers Association (TLA) will host a virtual conversation with the Honorable Stuart M. Rice, A75, Judge of the Los Angeles County Superior Court.  TLA is honored to welcome Judge Rice as its featured guest as part of this edition of the Tufts Judicial Series – a series of programs highlighting distinguished Tufts alumni who serve in our state and federal judiciaries.

The Hon. Stuart M. Rice is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in July of 2005.

Judge Rice graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in history from Tufts University in 1975. He went on to earn his J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law in 1978.

After graduating from law school, Rice joined the law firm of Gottlieb, Gottlieb, and Stein in 1978 as an associate. He practiced with the firm until 1983 when he co-founded the law firm of Rice and Rothenberg. He was elected a court commissioner for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in 2003. He remained in that position until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2005.

Some of his many leadership positions have included serving as President of the following organizations: Aranda Inns of Court, the California Judges Association, the California Court Commissioners Association, the Long Beach Bar Association, and the California Young Lawyers Association. He has also served 4 times on the Los Angeles Superior Court Executive Committee and has been a member of the State Bar Board of Governors and the Judicial Council of California.

In 2012 Judge Rice received the MacFaden Judge of the Year Award from the South Bay Bar Association.

The program will start with a "fireside chat" with Judge Rice led by two TLA West Coast Members -- John Hanover (Partner at Alson & Bird) and Michael Chen (Assistant Dean of Admissions at Western State College of Law). TLA West Coast Chair, Ken Priore, will also be participating in the event.  If you have questions to submit to Judge Rice, please contact John, Michael, or Ken.  If you are interested in learning more about TLA West Coast, contact Ken or myself.

All alumni, students, parents and friends are welcome to attend.
