The Alumni Council is the governing body of the Tufts University Alumni Association. We have 250 members representing all the schools of the university. The Council also includes about 80 Emeritus or retired members. View our executive committee and recently elected members.


Each year, Tufts alumni elect nine alumni members and four members of the graduating class to serve a 5-year term on the Council. Alumni also elect alumni to the Tufts Board of Trustees. The Council oversees these elections. Each winter, the Alumni Council present a slate of candidates for the alumni body to vote on in the spring.

Council Activities

The Council oversees the worldwide network of regional alumni chapters and affinity groups, and coordinates alumni awards, communications, continuing education, and alumni giving. Council members plan programs and services such as Alumni Weekend, Homecoming, and Alumni Career Services. We also advise university leaders on student issues.

Alumni Career Services

Through a joint effort with the Office of Alumni Relations and Tufts Career Center, the Alumni Council helped establish the Alumni Career Services Program in 2004. The program provides coaching and training, one-on-one counseling sessions and networking opportunities for Tufts alumni and has served thousands of alumni from all over the United States and the world.

Special Reunion for Young Alumni

Back to the Hill: Young Alumni Festival, jointly developed by the Alumni Council and the Office of Alumni Relations, is a special event for classes celebrating their first, fifth, or tenth reunions. The event attracted 850 young alumni to campus in June 2017, from as close as Somerville and as far away as Japan.

Supporting Tufts Financially

We are committed to supporting Tufts financially from within our membership and creating a culture of philanthropy in the Jumbo community as a whole. The Council voted unanimously at its annual meeting on in April 2017 to support the university’s capital campaign starting in November 2017 in the following ways:

  1. Contribute $30M in support of the campaign with annual participation from every active Council member.
  2. Engage in advocacy and outreach to raise participation in annual giving among the alumni body.
  3. Foster an enduring culture of giving in the broad Jumbo community.
