Marci Kroft J96: Head of the Tufts Toronto Alliance

At Tufts I majored in Art History while being an active member of Tufts Hillel and the Leonard Carmichael Society. I was an English tutor for various kitchen staff in the dining halls. I always think fondly about the times I spent with my friends having pizza at Nick’s, coffee at Dunkin Donuts, and French toast at Jay’s Deli. I always loved going to the Bub’s and Jill’s concerts and did a senior internship for Sotheby’s, the international fine art auction house.

When I moved to Toronto, I started interviewing prospective students through the Tufts Admissions Network (TAN).  I was chair of the committee for more than ten years. Shortly after getting involved in this capacity, the chair of the Toronto committee at the time was looking to step down, so I volunteered to take over the role. At the same time, I took it upon myself to start planning yearly alumni events for the Toronto community. Now, I work as a Private Art Consultant while serving as head of the Toronto Tufts Alliance.

My favorite event that we host would have to be Tufts at TIFF, which has been in the works for the past four years. It consists of a screening at the Toronto International Film Festival followed by a reception and discussion about the film.  Now that Tufts has a film department, we have had the privilege of having Malcom Turvey, the director of the Department of Film and Media Studies, attend our event the last two years and lead the film discussion groups.

One of our earliest events was a reception and lecture by Sol Gittelman. We also had a book reading and reception by a child studies and human development professor and we also hosted a private tour of the Toronto International Art Fair.

I feel that Tufts made me the person I am today and I want everyone to know what an amazing place it is.
