Emma Leavitt, A14, worked in collaboration with Sebastian Mariscal Studio to install a mural at the Powderhouse Studio in Somerville. Emma received a grant from the Tufts Alumni Professional Development Fund in 2019. Reflecting on the impact of the grant in her career as an artist, Emma remarked, “The funds from the Professional Development Fund helped me to take on a large public art project that would have been difficult without Tufts support. It was a huge learning experience and a milestone in my career! The support from Tufts helped legitimize and validate the work I was doing and allowed me to source additional funding and support for my project from outside of Tufts. I am grateful to have had this experience and this project in my portfolio. I believe it will help me get more opportunities in the future and greatly increased my knowledge of the public art sector.” Emma has since worked as a Freelance Communications Professional and Artist at Brain Arts Organization, Cambridge Insight Meditation Center, 1369 Coffee House, MINDART and Solei Arts.

Do you need support for professional development? Is there a conference or training that's just out of reach? Apply for support through the Tufts Alumni Professional Development Fund. We'll cover the costs of a training program, certification, professional organization membership, conference, language coursework, or other activity. We're open to your proposal!

Over the past five years the fund has supported 38 alumni across a span of class years, 1978-2021, and a range of career stages, including launching first careers, pivoting careers, graduate school application and prep courses, upskilling, and realizing near retirement and encore career goals.

Sponsored by the Tufts Alumni Council and the Tufts University Alumni Association and managed by Alumni Career Services, the fund is open to alumni from all Tufts schools, degree programs and class years. Grants usually range from $250 - $2000. Deadline to apply is January 31.
