Patrick D. Cassidy, E12 of Boston, MA

BS, Mechanical Engineering, Tufts University School of Engineering, 2012

Current Occupation: Senior Data Analyst, Lightkeeper LLC. (Lightkeeper is a financial data management, portfolio analytics, and reporting software firm.)

Previous Occupation: Submarine Officer, United States Navy. Upon graduation from Tufts, I completed the submarine officer nuclear training pipeline, which led to my long-term role as a junior officer on USS Toledo. I traveled over 100,000 nautical miles by way of submarine in three years which included a seven-month deployment to United States Central Command.

Tufts-affiliated Activities: Alumnus: Friends of Tufts Football: regular events include attendance at the annual upperclassmen/alumni networking event and panel member at the annual young alumni career fair; Tufts Advocates for ROTC: regular events include the annual networking breakfast, Veteran’s Day ceremony, and hosting a happy hour for the graduating Navy ROTC students to discuss the transition from Tufts into the military; Tufts Athletics Alumni Group: young alumni panel member for the Tufts Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Undergraduate: Varsity Football; Navy ROTC

Other Professional / Volunteer Affiliations and Activities: The Wardroom Club of Boston:  The membership consists of active duty, retired and former Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps Officers, and Merchant Marine Officers and meets on a regular basis to discuss affairs of the nation, primarily of a military nature involving the maritime services and to review past, present, and future nautical matters.

Candidate Statement: When I arrived on campus in the fall of 2008, I could have never anticipated the challenge that would be presented by studying engineering while simultaneously participating in demanding extracurricular activities.  The support of professors, faculty, coaches, alumni, and fellow students played a crucial role in allowing me to accomplish my goals while at Tufts.  I can think of several instances where individuals from the Tufts community helped me stay focused on the path towards Commencement in the spring of 2012.

The positive affect of the Tufts community has not wavered since. In particular, as I prepared to make my transition out of the Navy in early 2017, I was fortunate to be able to connect with several Jumbos who were willing to go out of their way to help me land on my feet as a military veteran in the workforce.

All of this has inspired me to stay involved in the Tufts community in hopes that I too can make a difference in the lives of Jumbos for years to come. My focus on giving back to Tufts since graduation has been on supporting students participating in the extracurricular activities I was involved in during my time as an undergrad. I hope that being a member of the Alumni Council will present me with an opportunity to contribute more broadly to the University, while acting as a Council representative for the School of Engineering, Tufts Athletics, and the Tufts Advocates for ROTC.
