Raised in Germany and Ethiopia, Dr. Hasselblatt came to study in Maryland on a Fulbright Scholarship. Since earning a Ph.D. from Caltech, he has been a Professor of Mathematics at Tufts. Now a much-cited researcher, Secretary of the American Mathematical Society, erstwhile department chair and Associate Provost, he has lived in Somerville, Berlin, Addis Abeba, Pasadena, Göttingen, Stade, Washington, Zürich, Marseille, Paris, Tokyo and Strasbourg. His travels as lecturer, researcher, singer, tourist, and faculty host have taken him to Africa, Asia, the Middle East, the Americas, New Zealand, and across Europe.
