Steve Chapra Image

Steven C. Chapra is Professor Emeritus and former Louis Berger Chair in Environmental Engineering at Tufts University. Steve earned his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and is the author of more than 200 technical publications, including 11 widely used textbooks. Over a 50-year career, his research has focused on understanding and protecting the water quality of rivers, lakes, estuaries, and oceans. He has received best-teacher awards at all three universities where he has taught: Texas A&M, the University of Colorado, and Tufts.

A lifelong traveler, Steve has explored and studied many of the world’s great waterways—including those of Turkey—and is especially interested in how engineering, science, and computer modeling can help address water-quality challenges sustainably and cost-effectively. On this trip, he will offer several lectures, including his research on the history of water quality, the impact of climate change on the world’s waters, and Turkey: A Land Defined by Water—a scientific, historical, and economic overview of the nation’s remarkable aquatic heritage.
